The Victorian Walled Garden

4th April 2018

On a cloudless day in a Cheshire Walled garden is a cultivar greenhouse at it’s very best. A blank canvas following years of neglect allowed our clients to plan their restoration project with care, skill and vision giving the Cultivar greenhouse a prominent position.

The brief was for a practical working greenhouse that complimented the stylish, traditional landscape with a contemporary touch. This greenhouse is over twenty foot in length and more than ten foot wide internally with a side of wide staging and shelving.

It’s presently laden with pots and pots of delightful flowering plants but no doubt the home to tender seedlings and cuttings during early Spring before being hardened off in the full side of cold frames before being planted out. The other side of the greenhouse being used for the luxury of freshly grown courgettes, peppers, aubergines, cucumbers and tomatoes in a deep bed, sunk into the ground. With doors at both ends the working space is well used, the wide doors allowing easy access and on the hottest days a welcome through breeze.

In just a couple of years the beautiful long lasting Accoya frames and boarding are already going a silver grey, aging and co- ordinating with the subtle grey powder coated aluminium glazing bars.

This greenhouse will grow old gracefully and as the walled garden gradually achieves it’s former grandeur much pleasure will be derived from this lovely renovation.
