The Cultivar Lean To Greenhouses Range
The Cultivar lean to greenhouse range comes in two standard widths. These are our small 5’10’” (1783mm) option and our 8’3”’ (2523mm) wide option.
You can arrange a bespoke three quarter lean to glasshouse design if you wish, with our modular approach permitting us to span the full width of a wall if requested to ensure maximum flexibility.
Our 3/4 lean to greenhouses are also available in variety of styles ranging from modern design with wide pane centres or period Victorian lean to greenhouse designs which have narrower pane centres.
Three Quarter Lean-to Greenhouses
Cultivar produce a range of three-quarter lean to greenhouses that can be fitted against an existing wall. This, of course, is assuming that the wall is in good order and is plumb and true. A three-quarter lean-to greenhouse has significant advantages over that of a standard lean-to. Firstly the wall to which the greenhouse abuts need not be as high. Secondly and arguably equally important the greenhouse benefits from having a greater cubic air capacity as well as having vents on both sides of the ridge. If optimizing airflow and access is your main priority, exploring greenhouses with side doors is another excellent architectural solution. Additional ventilation can also be added at eaves leve along the length or at the plain end of the greenhouse to compensate from the lack of ventilation along the wall side.
The Victorian three-quarter lean to range is available in exactly the same sizes but has the more traditional narrow pane centres and is crowned at each end with a hand turned Accoya finial as pictured.
In an ideal world the wall should be south facing, but if you are evaluating different spots in your garden, following a complete greenhouse orientation guide ensures you will benefit from full sun most of the day. The wall tends to absorb the heat during the day which is useful in keeping the lean to greenhouse temperature up high into the evening and night.
Where Should You Position a Lean to Greenhouse?
While the abutting wall can help maintain heat levels in your greenhouse if it joins onto your residence, it also deprives your crops of some of the available sunlight.
This makes it extra important to consider which wall your three quarter lean to greenhouse is going to be abutted to. In an ideal world, the wall should be south facing as this will ensure that you greenhouse benefits from full sun for the majority of the day.
An added benefit of having a south facing lean to structure is that the solid abutting wall acts as a thermal mass, absorbing the heat from the sun throughout the day and slowly releasing it to maintain stable temperatures heading into the evening and night.

If you would prefer to have a relatively big greenhouse with additional width, then perhaps one of our abutting greenhouses would be a better option for you.
The width of this model is approximately 10’7” (3330mm). This is available as glass to ground or with an Accoya boarded base. In situations where the space available is sufficient, then you may consider adding cold frames to the width

Frequently Asked Questions

Additionally, the wall it attaches to does not need to be as high, giving you far more flexibility when choosing the perfect location against your property.
For optimal growing conditions, a south facing wall is the absolute best choice. This orientation ensures your structure captures full sunlight for the majority of the day. Furthermore, a solid brick or stone wall acts as a natural heat sink, absorbing warmth during the day and releasing it into the night to protect your crops.
