A Room with a View

Look up from the greenhouse staging and there’s unirivalled views across the Derbyshire Dales. On a clear day you can see for miles and this greenhouse gets up to temperature. Helped no doubt by the South facing Wall to which it abuts. A greenhouse like this holds the temperature better than most. You see, the stonework stores the heat built up in th day and this heat is retained and slowly released overnight. The result is a consistent growing temperature which makes for happy plants. A wall like this also gives you something to grow against. A place to train a sun loving plant that might otherwise be found on the continent, a fig say.

Series 3 shelves flank the porch entrance, making good use of the space and providing useful storage. Handy for seed trays in spring or simply a place to store tools. It’s no co-incidence that a water feature has been placed close to hand, the gentle sound of the water sets the mood and makes the greenhouse a good place to relax, an escape from the strains and stresses of everyday life. If it rains, which is not unknown in these parts, there’s cover under glass so gardening endeavour can continue unabated.

About this Greenhouse

This greenhouse measures a touch over 8’ wide (2523mm) by just under 16’ long (4664mm to be precise), the central porch adds to the width taking it to 11’ (3355mm). Against the wall the greenhouse gutter sits about 5’6” (1720mm) above the level of the base. This combined with a generous 45 degree roof pitch makes for a light airy space with a good cubic air capacity. And from the upper terrace you have a vantage point to appreciate the full length automated roof vents, a feature common to all cultivar greenhouses. But it won’t be long before your eyes are drawn back to the horizon, and what a view it is.
